To the ROOF!

May 4, 2018

Summer is right around the corner and we’ve never been more excited -- in large part because construction has officially started on the rooftop patio! A few times I’ve caught myself standing on the bare roof, staring out over the water, day-dreaming of how sweet it’ll be to crush pizza and Storm up there with friends. This morning I spent a bit more time thinking back on just how much support we had from the community to make it happen.

We started the application process months ago. It involved several stages of government review at both the municipal and provincial level... including a public hearing at the Town of Gibsons. It’s nerve wracking by the time you’re there. You’ve already put so much time, effort and resources in and you never know how it’s going to go. The town’s Planning Department presents the application to Town Council, who make their decision on whether the application should be approved based largely on public input. When the planning department was asked if they’d received any letters regarding the application, we were sitting on the edge of our seats. “3 letters opposed and 58 letters for.” We were blown away. Reading the letters was even more rewarding. It reinforced why we started Tapworks in the first place. Many wrote how much they appreciate the different events or the beer/staff/late hours but there was a theme around the taproom being a community hub. It’s where they go when they have family in from out of town, where they catch up with friends or meet new ones. Beer aside, that’s what we’re all about.

So we just wanted to say “Thank You” to the amazing folks of the community. We are so lucky to have your support and be a part of such an incredible group of people.
